"Many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many"

As the destruction of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, was approaching, many false prophets were proclaiming messages of hope and deliverance, while God had warned through Jeremiah that Nebuchadnezzar would take the city captive and destroy it. "Satan, taking advantage of the circumstances, caused false prophets to arise among the people, both in Jerusalem and in Babylon, who declared that the yoke of bondage would soon be broken and the former prestige of the nation restored."   PK 440.  A very similar state is occurring in our own time, just before the close of probation and the second coming of Christ.  False prophets abound, deceiving multitudes with their miracles and false teachings.  "Paul, in his second letter to the Thessalonians, points to the special working of Satan in spiritualism as an event to take place immediately before the second advent of Christ."  4BC 1158.

"Through the agency of Spiritualism, miracles will be wrought, the sick will be healed, and many undeniable wonders will be performed. And as the spirits will profess faith in the Bible, and manifest respect for the institutions of the church, their work will be accepted as a manifestation of divine power."  GC 588"A belief in spiritual manifestations opens the door to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, and thus the influence of evil angels will be felt in the churches."  GC 603.

"Spiritualism is about to take the world captive. There are many who think that Spiritualism is upheld through trickery and imposture, but this is far from the truth. Superhuman power is working in a variety of ways, and few have any idea as to what will be the manifestations of Spiritualism in the future. The foundation for the success of Spiritualism has been laid in the assertions that have been made from the pulpits of our land. The ministers have proclaimed as Bible doctrines falsehoods that have originated with the arch deceiver."  Ev 602.
