"The Return of Christian Terrorism"

By Mark Juergensmeyer April 8, 2010

"Threats of right-wing violence have doubled in the past year. What is behind the latest upsurge in the movement to create a Christian theocratic state?"

Excerpts:  Christian terrorism has returned to America with a vengeance....The more significant position...advanced is related...to Dominion Theology, the position that Christianity must reassert the dominion of God over all things, including secular politics and society. This point of view, articulated by such right-wing Protestant spokespersons as Rev. Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, have been part of the ideology of the Christian Right since at least the 1980s and 1990s.

At its hardest edge, the movement requires the creation of a kind of Christian politics to set the stage for America’s acceptance of the second coming of Christ....

The Christian anti-abortion movement is permeated with ideas from Dominion Theology. Randall Terry (founder of the militant anti-abortion organization Operation Rescue and a writer for the Dominion magazine Crosswinds) signed the magazine’s “Manifesto for the Christian Church,” which asserted that America should “function as a Christian nation.”...

At the extreme right wing of Dominion Theology is a relatively obscure theological movement...Reconstruction Theology, whose exponents long to create a Christian theocratic state.

Reconstruction writers regard the history of Protestant politics since the early years of the Reformation as having taken a bad turn, and they are especially unhappy with the Enlightenment formulation of church-state separation. They feel it necessary to “reconstruct” Christian society by turning to the Bible as the basis for a nation’s law and social order.

According to the most prolific Reconstruction writer, Gary North, it is “the moral obligation of Christians to recapture every institution for Jesus Christ." He feels this to be especially so in the United States, where secular law as construed by the Supreme Court and defended by liberal politicians is moving in what Rushdoony and others regard as a decidedly un-Christian direction; particularly in matters regarding abortion and homosexuality. What the Reconstructionists ultimately want, however, is more than the rejection of secularism. Like other theologians who utilize the biblical concept of “dominion,” they reason that Christians, as the new chosen people of God, are destined to dominate the world...

These activists are quite serious about bringing Christian politics into power. Bray said that it is possible, under the right conditions, for a Christian revolution to sweep across the United States and bring in its wake Constitutional changes that would allow for biblical law to be the basis of social legislation.   Source

NARLA Reports on Work-free Sunday Conference in Brussels

The Work-Free Sunday Movement Getting Organized in Europe

A “Work-Free Sunday” and the need of legislation to enforce the concept was the topic of a conference held this week in Brussels, Belgium.  Last year the European Parliament rejected such an attempt.  This conference comes as a response.  It is but the beginning of a more strategic movement to revitalize the discussion for a work-free Sunday.  Daniela Weichhold attended the conference and reports that László Andor, the new Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs, saw the conference as " a new chapter."  As Weichhold points out the EU Commission can still launch the legislative procedure even if it fails.  There is now a serious attempt to convince the hearts and minds of Europeans that Sunday legislation is necessary for the health of all citizens.

The conference was organized by a number of trade unions, political parties, Roman Catholic Bishops, and Protestant Churches including the Baptist, Methodist, Church of England, and Evangelical Lutherans...

Karel Nowak, Secretary General of the International Association for the Defence of Religious Liberty, was also present at the Conference.  He raised the question how this new proposed legislation would protect minorities who keep another day than Sunday.  As Weichhold noted he didn't get an answer.

"While we strongly support the right to rest," states John Graz the director of the public affairs and religious liberty department at the General Conference, "we believe the individual should be permitted to choose which days to rest on - not the state in cooperation with churches. We view this movement as a serious threat to religious freedom."

"Seventh-day Adventists have long encouraged members to keep a weekly rest day – as enjoined by the Ten Commandments – the Sabbath (which is Saturday or sábado in Spanish) and practiced by the early Christian Church,” states Barry Bussey who represents the Adventist Church to the US Government.  “Throughout history we have seen these attempts to use state regulation to enforce a particular interpretation of the Sabbath Commandment.  That is not the state’s role – ultimately it will cause hardship for minority faiths that do not accept the majority’s regulation of a Sabbath or a particular day.  At the same time we must recognize that there is a need for families to have a day off for recreation or spiritual welfare.  It is a must – the question is whether that is the role of the state or the individual."

“We will continue to monitor the situation,” says James Standish, who heads up the UN Relations for the Adventist Church.  “This is a disturbing movement.  Now is the time for us as a people to share with others the importance of maintaining religious freedom for all citizens.”   NARLA

Author on CNN Advocates Sunday Laws

NOTE: John V. Stevens, Sr., President of Founders First Freedom, observes: "A democratic society is where the majority rules. But with our constitution we are a republic, theoretically. There are non negotiable freedoms the majority is not empowered to take away. Religious belief and practice is such an area."

Judith Shulevitz, author of "The Sabbath World," explains on CNN NewsRoom to anchor Don Lemon: "It is really a good idea, for people, for families, for communities to set aside a structured time in which to connect with each other and that is at the heart of what the Sabbath does."

"A collective time illness": "A collective time sickness actually. We're driven by time rather than driving it oursevles. And it's making us sick... And one of the things that's happening to us is that we're all getting on these very different schedules, and we're having a very hard time figuring out how to come together, and what the Sabbath does is that it creates the situation in which there's just a structured period in which we can come to together.

"But one of the things I argue in the book is that, one of the ideas, the political ideas, that is sort of embedded in the Sabbath, is the idea that as a society we have a right to take control of our time, and say that maybe as a democratic society, we want to decide to bring back some rules about what can and can not be done one day a week and we might want to start thinking of ways to encourage people not to work on that day." CNN's Don Lemon replies, "Very good advice."

Author Judith Shulevitz on Sunday Enforcement

Do I think everyone else should observe a Sabbath? I believe it would be good for them, and even better for me, since the more widespread the ritual, the more likely I am to observe it. It is much easier to keep the Sabbath, for instance, when your family does, too, though getting children to agree to do anything their friends don't do may prove insurmountable...

I confess, though, that I have a hard time imagining a Sabbath divorced from religion: who would make the effort to honor the godly part of himself if he didn't believe in a deity, no matter how ecumenical? It's just as difficult to envision the Sabbath surviving the current speeding-up of everything without some generally enforced slowdown. The great religions lasted as long as they did because they were able to make their rituals part of everyone's life. Source

What we'd learn is the immense usefulness, to society, of a structured period of non-productivity, as well as the need to enforce that pause. Putting teeth into a neo-Sabbath might involve legislation--tougher laws restricting off-hours and weekend work, or compensating it at a higher rate...
...we shouldn't run scared from the ecclesiastical associations that cling to the Sabbath like earth to roots. Religion is the source of most forms of transcendence in our mostly very mundane lives, whether or not we now pray or believe. Religion has given us storytelling, poetry, music, art, and theater; it has occasioned the founding of universities; it has been responsible for great advances in architecture. There's no reason not to let religion lend us one of its most powerful social ideas--the Sabbath--as well. Source

Panel Debates Whether Sunday Should be Enshrined in the EU Constitution

Many of the deputies in the European Parliament want to enshrine Sunday into the European “constitution”.  Currently, it is up to member states to define Sunday as their weekly resting day.

Let's talk about EU is the brand new monthly current affairs program produced by EUobserver.com. Shot in the European Parliament in Brussels, the panel debates place controversial topics on the table.  Opponents of an EU regulation on the work-free Sunday argue in the video that Brussels should not force people into behaving a certain way.

A previous attempt to specifically refer to Sunday in the EU rules on working time was defeated in 1996 by the European Court of Justice, which found insufficient links to the health and safety of workers.  Studies have since proven there is a positive impact on the safety, health and social life of workers to have a day off together with other people, rather than just any random weekday.

In Contempt of the U.S. Constitution, Pope Benedict Speaker Rebukes Speaker Pelosi

"Let the principle once be established in the United States, that the church may employ or control the power of the State; that religious observances may be enforced by secular laws; in short, that the authority of church and State is to dominate the conscience, and the triumph of Rome in this country is assured." GC88 580

“The State has not the right to leave every man free to embrace whatever religion he should deem true. …The [Roman Catholic] Church has the right to require that the [Roman] Catholic religion shall be the religion of the State, to the exclusion of all others.…Cursed be those who assert liberty of conscience and of worship and such that maintain that the [Roman Catholic] Church may not employ force.” -The Syllabus Errorum of Pope Pius IX (December 1864)

First European Conference for the Protection of a Work-free Sunday

Address by the Keynote Speaker Lázló Andor at the first European Conference for the 'protection of a work-free Sunday'. The conference was held at the European Parliament in Brussels on Wednesday 24th March 2010.

"Its professions are mild and apparently Christian, but when it shall speak it will reveal the spirit of the dragon"

"The Sunday movement is now making its way in darkness. The leaders are concealing the true issue, and many who unite in the movement do not themselves see whither the under-current is tending. Its professions are mild, and apparently Christian; but when it shall speak, it will reveal the spirit of the dragon."   RH, December 11, 1888

The Euro zone

Brits to be banned from working Sundays

Brits will be banned from working on Sundays if Brussels gets its way.

Euro-MPs want to make Sunday a legal day of rest. Shops would shut and only the likes of hospital staff, cops and firemen would be allowed to work.  EU chiefs are drawing up new rules for working hours under a review of the controversial Working Time Directive.

Hundreds of Euro-MPs have signed an appeal to the European Commission to consider "work-free" Sundays. They say banning work would boost family life and health. They claim staff working weekends are more likely to go sick. They also argue that because EU institutions close for business on Sunday, EU citizens should not have to work either.  Backers say it is also important for those with religious beliefs.

But Stephen Booth of the Open Europe campaign group said: "There is absolutely no need for the EU to be deciding what days people can work.

"This ludicrous proposal shows the extent to which MEPs are determined to interfere in the working practices of UK citizens.  "This is totally unacceptable."    Source

Sunday laws come in four Phases

Sunday laws come in at least four phases. First, there is the Sunday closing laws in which shops and industries are closed. The second phase is Sunday rest laws in which people are required to not work, except in essential services such as in hospitals, and in the lines of transportation. That is why the proposed language for the EU Working Time Directive used the term “in principle.” Also in this second phase is included laws that prevent people from doing many activities that are considered to be work such as mowing the lawn, or fixing the porch on the house, or other types of labor.

The third phase is Sunday worship laws requiring church attendance and worship on Sunday. And the fourth phase is the forbidding of worship and the requiring of work on God’s seventh-day Sabbath.

Most of Europe already has phase one; Sunday closing laws. Croatia recently harmonized its laws with the rest of Europe, and beginning January 1, 2009 closes shops on Sunday. The news reports said Croatia’s parliament passed this law in a concession to the Roman Catholic Church. Obviously the Church put a lot of pressure on Croatia’s parliament.

Notice that the attempt to influence the Working Time Directive [in the EU] was not just to get stores to close on Sunday like in Croatia, but to require rest from labor. That is phase two. If a centralized European government becomes so strong that it can make a specific day of rest for all of Europe, we will have come to a time when the prophecy of Revelation 13 will be nearly fulfilled. When a secular power is able to enforce Sunday rest on behalf of the Roman Church, Europe will have resurrected the Holy Roman Empire. Keep the Faith

"Sooner rather than later, we may be living in a very different country"

Excerpts: The extreme Right may control a good part of the castle, but they have yet to breach the citadel. Only, make no mistake, they mean to bring every last wall crashing down.

And if they manage this, what will they do?

Most of them would like to see the United States under biblical law.

They have nothing but disdain for the founding fathers' belief in three branches of government and the prescient system of checks and balances. Indeed, they are rewriting America's revolutionary history to accommodate their point of view.

For all of those Americans who believe that our democracy is safe, you are wrong. Today, the radical Right is winning, and they know it. Sooner rather than later, we may be living in a very different country, a country that had been ours, a country that will be theirs. - Huffington Post

U.S. Leaders Ranking Themselves on the side of the Man of Sin is the Signal of National Ruin

The people of the United States have been a favored people; but when they restrict religious liberty, surrender Protestantism, and give countenance to popery, the measure of their guilt will be full, and "national apostasy" will be registered in the books of heaven. The result of this apostasy will be national ruin. - RH, May 2, 1893.

It is at the time of the national apostasy when, acting on the policy of Satan, the rulers of the land will rank themselves on the side of the man of sin. It is then the measure of guilt is full. The national apostasy is the signal for national ruin. - 2SM 373 (1891).

Roman Catholic principles will be taken under the care and protection of the state. This national apostasy will speedily be followed by national ruin. - RH June 15, 1897.

The best way to honor Pope John Paul II, truly one of the great men, is to take his teaching seriously; is to listen to his words and put his words and teachings into action here in America. This is a challenge we must accept. - President George W. Bush, March 21, 2001.

In an April 1982 speech before the National Catholic Education Association, President Reagan made the incredible statement, "I am grateful for your help in shaping American policy to reflect God's will ...., And I will look forward to further guidance from His Holiness Pope John Paul II during an audience I will have
with him in June."

[bushs_at_mass.jpg]
When our nation, in its legislative councils, shall enact laws to bind the consciences of men in regard to their religious privileges, enforcing Sunday observance, and bringing oppressive power to bear against those who keep the seventh-day Sabbath, the law of God will, to all intents and purposes, be made void in our land, and national apostasy will be followed by national ruin. - 7BC 977 (1888).

When the state shall use its power to enforce the decrees and sustain the institutions of the church--then will Protestant America have formed an image to the papacy, and there will be a national apostasy which will end only in national ruin. - 7BC 976 (1910).

"Our purpose is to make America dominantly Catholic." - "The Mission Movement in America," issued from the Catholic University, Washington, D.C., June, 1909.

When the protestant churches shall unite with the secular power to sustain a false religion, for opposing which their ancestors endured the fiercest persecution, then will the papal sabbath be enforced by the combined authority of church and state. There will be a national apostasy, which will end only in national ruin. - Ev 235 (1899).

"In 1960, John F. Kennedy went from Washington to Texas to assure Protestant preachers that he would not obey the pope . . . In 2001, George Bush came from Texas up to Washington to assure a group of Catholic bishops that he woud obey the pope." - Washington Times, April 16, 2001

"A Coming One World Gov/Religion"

by JOHN V. STEVENS, SR. President
Founders First Freedom

(Please read this web site first about enforcing a no work Sunday in Europe and then the implications)
Anyone truly perceptive of our fading freedoms, and particularly of individual religious and civil freedoms, which touches or even controls everyone of us, should look with some alarm at the developments that are taking place and being promoted in Europe.

Continental Europe is the home of the largest professing Christian body of believers in the world and is also pervasively secular by choice at the same time. To transform that drastic efforts are being made.  In 1957 The Treaty of Rome was signed, and the six participating nations formed the European Economic Union. Other nations joined and in 1992 the Treaty of Maastricht was approved, amending previous treaties, making it a political European Union, the EU. The key player all along has been the Roman Catholic Church which views Europe as a traditionally Catholic continent. It also was a key factor in the forming of the Council of Europe, in 1949 which presently has 47 member nations. It foresees a United Europe politically and religiously, seeing no way such a union can result without the merger of church and state, utilizing political power, along with its sanctions, to achieve that end.

This effort is crafted to eliminate work opportunities on Sunday, forcing people to make their livelihood Monday through Saturday.  Saturday Sabbath keepers and Friday keeping Muslims have one less day to make a livelihood.  It will diminish opportunities for individuals to make a livelihood, and particularly impact those believers that have private businesses and choose to take off their day of religious observance in honor of their God and at the same time will reduce their opportunities to compete with similar businesses.

Even secularists, who have little or no interest in Bible Prophecy, are keenly aware that we are rapidly moving toward a one world government with a one world religion, including no secular work on Sundays.

One need not be a student of prophecy to know see it coming. However, those that are students of Bible prophecy have even greater reason to be troubled, even alarmed, for the goal is not merely Sunday rest but a mandatory religious Sunday observance is on the horizon.

That specific religious mandate will be broadly accomplished, with some notable exceptions and for the dissenters there will be worldwide economic sanctions because they refuse to mesh in with the falsely marketed version of the "common good" of the people.

When economic sanctions, "no buy no sell" rights, fail to accomplish the intended end there will be one more step planned.  Then the predetermined global genocide decree will be declared with a date when it will be executed against those who are determined to be non conformists and to steadfastly hold to their own conscientious convictions.  Prophecy points out all of these coming events.

When the world has hit rock bottom it will come because the vast majority will be rejecting, while professing loyalty to, the very God of heaven, denying the very foundation of their religion, the universal principles of love, life, liberty and law, requiring all to love God supremely and their fellowman as themselves. God will see that He can do no more for the world and will send His Son back for those who are true worshippers of the universal principles of God's kingdom, which are embodied in the love of God and one's neighbor, following the moral principles of the Ten Commandments fully, serving God in love and faith and willing to die rather than to choosing to reject God and His will.

To them to do the will of God is the same spirit Jesus expressed in prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane before He was crucified.  Christ will return before the announced date of the planned global genocide to save His own and destroy the earth along with the death of those who seek to force their religion on others.

For those unfamiliar with the prophecies dealing with these events portrayed in this article it is suggested that they turn to the Book of Revelation and read chapters 13, 17 and 18. The tie of popular religion to the use of the governments of the world, instead of a tie with God, will bring this world to an end in the not too distant future. Prophecies make clear that the structured worship will include the worship of the world religious leader.

In the mind of the world’s leading Roman Catholic legal scholar,  noted Notre Dame Law Professor Charles E. Rice, the world has to have a supra legal arbiter in order to have unity and survival.

“But . . . . there must be someone, outside the government and the people, to whom they can look for morally binding interpretations of the natural law. Since the natural law is the law of God and since Christ is God, it would be appropriate for that supra legal arbiter of the natural law to be the Vicar of Christ (i.e., the pope). . . . An umpire is needed in the moral sphere, and this has to be the Vicar of Christ.”1

Rice continues to make a case for the papacy as a law unto itself: “The objective, in short, must be free acceptance by the American people.”

The end result of such planning and living is forecast by God to bring just the opposite results, the end of civilization, the rejection of God's Spirit and the settling into a irretrievable way of life that ultimately leads to destruction from which no human will return on the one hand, or the conferring of immortality and eternal life on those in whom the image of God has been restored, a life which will never come to an end.

Each reader, for we all will ultimately face a final judgment by God based on our life and its deeds, has to make a serious conscious choice about where you want to be when the "great controversy" is ended. This controversy is between God and Satan, the forces of goodness, life and liberty against the forces of evil, death and control. Soon it will come to an end so we all need to diligently pursue our goal, with no compromise, whatever the consequences or cost to us personally in life on this earth.

John V. Stevens, Sr.

A Review of Chris Hedges' "American Fascists"

By Stephen Lendman

(Excerpts) "Christian Fascists" is an incisive examination of the huge threat extremist Christian fascists pose to a shaky free society most people in the U.S. take for granted but no longer will after reading this important book. Chris Hedges said he wrote the book out of anger and fear of the fundamentalist Christian Right seeking to establish theocratic dominion over society in America in the name of God and is using the Republican party as their vehicle to do it.

They're not kidding. Some observers in Washington believe they already have it includinding journalist Bill Moyers. Hedges powerful book leaves no doubt how great a threat they are to our cherished liberties in a free society now in great jeopardy.

Beneath the surface, thier doctrine is dark and forboding, posing real dangers. Dominionists are awaiting a fiscal, social or political crisis great enough to end constitutional government replacing it with their vision of a Christian fascist theocratic American. In the meantime, they spent a generation working for this and now have great influence at state, local and federal levels of government.

Gays in a Christian Right dominated America would be the first social deviants singled out for condemation and elimination as in Nazi Germany. Other targeted groups would follow.

Forces against American democracy are waiting for a moment to strike, a national crisis that will allow them to shred the Constituion in the name of national security. The Christian Right awaits that time with gleeful anticipation, wanting their adherents to be ready.

Quotes by Chris Hedges in "American Fascists"

"Those arrayed against American democracy are waiting for a moment to strike, a national crisis that will allow them to shred the Constitution in the name of national security and strength. And those in the movement often speak of such a movement with gleeful anticipation," and they want their adherents to be ready. p. 202.

"Only a tiny minority [of Christian Americans]...are comfortable with this darker vision of an intolerant, theocratic America. Unfortunately, it is this minority that is taking over the machinery of U.S. state and religious institutions." p. 19.

"The Bush administration has steadily diverted billions of dollars of taxpayer money from secular and governmental social-service organizations to faith-based organizations, bankrolling churches and organizations that seek to dismantle American democracy and create a theocratic state. . . the wall between church and state is being disassembled." p. 23.

"The power brokers in the radical Christian Right have already moved from the fringes of society to the executive branch, the House of Representatives, the Senate and the courts." p. 22.

"Faith-based organizations are consistently winning a larger portion of federal social-service funding, a trend that has tremendous social and political consequences if it continues." p. 24.

"A group of religious utopians . . . are slowly dismantling democratic institutions to establish a religious tyranny, the springboard to an American fascism." p. 36.

Re James D. Kennedy, "the drive to bring in new souls is also an open drive to broaden the political base of the movement and impose a theocracy." p. 70.

"They've won the Congress and the presidency, and they're about to win the courts because of their Congress and the president. They've won state houses across the country and precincts everywhere by the political process. . .They have a system to throw democracy out the window." p. 110.

"These dominionists hate the liberal, enlightened world formed by the Constitution, a world they blame for the debacle of their lives. They have one goal---its destruction." p. 202.

"I do believe that the radical Christian Right is a sworn and potent enemy of the open society . . . In the event of another catastrophic terrorist attack [or] an economic meltdown . . . the movement stands poised manipulate fear and chaos ruthlessly and reshape America in ways that have not been seen since the nation's founding." p. 207.

Statements on the Basis of Bible Prophecy Written over 100 years ago now Being Fulfilled on a Grand Scale in Front of the Entire World

"And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." In the near future we shall see these words fulfilled as the Protestant churches unite with the world and with the papal power against commandment keepers. The same spirit which actuated papists in ages past will lead Protestants to pursue a similar course toward those who will maintain their loyalty to God. - 5T 449

When the leading churches of the United States, uniting upon such points of doctrine as are held by them in common, shall influence the State to enforce their decrees and to sustain their institutions, then Protestant America will have formed an image of the Roman hierarchy, and the infliction of civil penalties upon dissenters will inevitably result. - GC 445

Church and state are now making preparations for the future conflict. Protestants are working in disguise to bring Sunday to the front, as did the Romanists. Satan will excite indignation against the humble minority who conscientiously refuse to accept popular customs and traditions. Men of position and reputation will join with the lawless and the vile to take counsel against the people of God. Wealth, genius, education, will combine to cover them with contempt. Persecuting rulers, ministers, and church members will conspire against them. With voice and pen, by boasts, threats, and ridicule, they will seek to overthrow their faith. By false representations and angry appeals they will stir up the passions of the people. Not having a "Thus saith the Scriptures" to bring against the advocates of the Bible Sabbath, they will resort to oppressive enactments to supply the lack. To secure popularity and patronage, legislators will yield to the demand for a Sunday law. Those who fear God cannot accept an institution that violates a precept of the Decalogue. On this battlefield comes the last great conflict of the controversy between truth and error. - 5T 550.
"And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spoke as a dragon." - Revelation 13:11
By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near. - 5T 451

When our nation shall so abjure the principles of its government as to enact a Sunday law, Protestantism will in this act join hands with popery; it will be nothing else than giving life to the tyranny which has long been eagerly watching its opportunity to spring again into active despotism. - 5T 712

As the approach of the Roman armies was a sign to the disciples of the impending destruction of Jerusalem, so may this apostasy be a sign to us that the limit of God's forbearance is reached, that the measure of our nation's iniquity is full, and that the angel of mercy is about to take her flight, never to return. The people of God will then be plunged into those scenes of affliction and distress which prophets have described as the time of Jacob's trouble. - 5T 451

The time is not far distant, when, like the early disciples, we shall be forced to seek a refuge in desolate and solitary places. As the siege of Jerusalem by the Roman armies was the signal for flight to the Judean Christians, so the assumption of power on the part of our nation, in the decree enforcing the papal sabbath, will be a warning to us. It will then be time to leave the large cities, preparatory to leaving the smaller ones for retired homes in secluded places among the mountains. - 5T 465

God has revealed what is to take place in the last days, that His people may be prepared to stand against the tempest of opposition and wrath. The Sunday movement is now making its way in darkness. The leaders are concealing the true issue, and many who unite in the movement do not themselves see whither the undercurrent is tending. Its professions are mild and apparently Christian, but when it shall speak it will reveal the spirit of the dragon. - 5T 452
Heretofore those who presented the truths of the third angel's message have often been regarded as mere alarmists. Their predictions that religious intolerance would gain control in the United States, that church and state would unite to persecute those who keep the commandments of God, have been pronounced groundless and absurd. It has been confidently declared that this land could never become other than what it has been--the defender of religious freedom. But as the question of enforcing Sunday observance is widely agitated, the event so long doubted and disbelieved is seen to be approaching, the truth will produce an effect which it could not have had before. - GC 606

The Christian world is now making movements which will necessarily bring commandment-keeping people into prominence. There is a constant supplanting of God's truth by the theories and false doctrines of human origin. Movements are being set on foot to enslave the consciences of those who would be loyal to God. The law-making powers will be against God's people. Every soul will be tested. - 5T 546
Religious powers, allied to heaven by profession, and claiming to have the characteristics of a lamb, will show by their acts that they have the heart of a dragon, and that they are instigated and controlled by Satan. The time is coming when God's people will feel the hand of persecution because they keep holy the seventh day. . . . But God's people are to stand firm for Him. And the Lord will work in their behalf, showing plainly that He is the God of gods. - 9T 229

"And all the World Wandered After the Beast"

"And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wandered after the beast. And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? Who is able to make war with him?" Revelation 13:3,4

"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy"

"Six days shalt thou labor and, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God." Exodus 20:8-10.

"The Church made a sacred day of Sunday... largely because it was the weekly festival of the sun; for it was a definite Christian policy to take over the pagan festivals endeared to the people by tradition, and to give them a Christian significance." - Arthur Weigall, The Paganism in Our Christianity, 1928, p. 145.

Frank Zappa: "The biggest threat to America today" is that America Moving Towards a Fascist Theocracy.

When one of his fellow panelist questions Zappa's assertion, he exclaims, "You bet we are buddy!"

The Papal Sabbath is the Mark of the Beast

"Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change (Saturday Sabbath to Sunday) was her act... And the act is a MARK of her ecclesiastical authority in religious things." H.F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons. Nov. 11, 1895.

"Sunday is our MARK of authority...the church is above the Bible, and this transference of Sabbath observance is proof of that fact." - Catholic Record of London, Ontario Sept. 1, 1923.

"The Sunday...is purely a creation of the Catholic Church." American Catholic Quarterly Review, January 1883
"Sunday...It is the law of the Catholic Church alone..." American Sentinel (Catholic) June 1893

"Sunday is a Catholic institution and its claim to observance can be defended only on Catholic principles .... From beginning to end of Scripture there is not a single passage that warrants the transfer of weekly public worship from the last day of the week to the first." Catholic Press, Sydney, Australia, August, 1990

Question: Which day is the Sabbath?”
Answer: Saturday is the Sabbath.”
"Question: Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?”
Answer: We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church in the Council of Laodicea (A.D. 336) transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday.” The Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, by Peter Geiermann, 50.

A Catholic church newsletter stated, “Perhaps the most revolutionary change the Church ever did, happened in the first century [actually in happened in the fourth century]. The holy day, the Sabbath, was changed from Saturday to Sunday. ‘The Day of the Lord’ [Dies Domini] was chosen, not from any direction noted in the Scriptures, but from the Church’s sense of its own power.…People who think that the Scriptures should be the sole authority, should logically become [Seventh-day] Adventists, and keep Saturday holy.” Saint Catherine Catholic Church Sentinel, Algonac, Michigan, May 21, 1995.

"A Scene of Strife such a no pen can Picture"

"The crisis is stealing gradually upon us....The highest excitement prevails, yet probation's hour is fast closing, and every case is about to be eternally decided. Satan sees that his time is short. He has set all his agents to work, that men may be deceived, deluded, occupied, and entranced, until the day of probation shall be ended, and the door of mercy be forever shut. The time is right upon us when there will be sorrow that no human balm can heal. Sentinel angels are now restraining the four winds, that they shall not blow till the servants of God are sealed in their foreheads; but when God shall bid his angels loose the winds, there will be a scene of strife such as no pen can picture."  RH, March 14, 1912

“Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man."  Luke 21:36
