Protestantism's Foolish, Fatal Mistake

In view of the many dark centuries in which protestants were persecuted, tortured and slaughtered at the hands of the papacy, it is truly stunning that today's protestants actually believe they are wiser than the founders of their own churches, who, without exception, believed that on the pontifical throne was seated the Antichrist.  It is a matter of wonderment that the protestant churches would, in our own time, use their influence to exalt he whom their founders emphatically identified as the Antichrist, and for opposing which their ancestors suffered and endured the fiercest persecution.

God in His great mercy, delivered protestants from the Inquisition, opening up for them the New World in which they could build a new nation upon the broad foundation of civil and religious liberty.  "The feeble and isolated colonies grew to a confederation of powerful States, and the world marked with wonder the peace and prosperity of 'a church without a pope, and a State without a king.' "  GC 296. Sad indeed, the irretrievable ruin to which the protestant world is hastening at lightning speed, and they will be without excuse.  God's word gave warning of the impending danger, but it went unheeded, leaving no other outcome but that protestants "will learn what the purposes of Rome really are, only when it is too late to escape the snare."  GC 581.

Colin Standish wrote, "The nations of Europe will quickly see the folly of their action as the final events of earth’s history unfold; however, it will then be forever too late. At that time, they will turn on the Papacy with unprecedented ferocity."

"And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. And the woman which thou sawest is that great city [Rome], which reigneth over the kings of the earth."  Revelation 17:16–18.   Source

"The Christian world will learn what Romanism really is, when it is too late to escape the snare."  4SP 397.
